  • no, that doesn't have pods with fins on the pods with fins on the plane with wings.
  • My grandpa always has a good story about when he flew them in the 50s. It was a really cool plane!
  • What base was your grandfather stationed at? My grandfather flew these in Greenland back in the 50s if i remember correctly.
  • My grandpa refueled these in Thule, Greenland back in the 50s.
  • Was he a part of 74th Fighter Intercepter Squadron?
  • Oh man, I have no idea. All I know off the top of my head is that he refueled and repaired planes up there for about a year. Though he wanted to be a pilot, he was colorblind and thus could not be one. He was stationed in Thule until an engine blew up in his face and they immediately brought him down to Florida (I have no idea why they couldn't have just brought him somewhere closer to Greenland) for medical treatment. He made a perfect recovery with very limited scaring and left the service shortly afterwards. Next time I see him I'll ask exactly when and in what designation he served.
  • Its a small world.
  • Presque Isle, Maine, and before that I think he received training in Austin, Texas
  • That thing looks rad. I've never seen one before, thanks for sharing!
